Senyawa
Senyawa is an award-winning experimental music duo from Java, Indonesia, formed by Rully Shabara and Wukir Suryadi. Their work blends the rich musical and folk traditions of the Indonesian archipelago with experimental music, creating a distinctive neo-tribal sound that has been described as combining "punk attitude" with an "avant-garde aesthetic."
Critics have praised Senyawa for incorporating the sonic textures of Javanese music while exploring the structures of experimental musical practice, pushing the boundaries of both traditions to create a sound that feels "completely out of this world."
The duo performs in several Indonesian languages, while Suryadi's music is created using his own handcrafted instruments, built from bamboo and traditional agricultural tools from rural Indonesia. Senyawa has performed at some of the world's leading international festivals and has built a highly respected discography, including Alkisah, an album released simultaneously by 44 independent record labels around the world.
