Três Tristes Tigres

Três Tristes Tigres, one of Portugal’s most iconic bands, returns to the stage with its new album, ARCA, released at the end of 2025 and named Best Portuguese Album of the Year by Expresso. With ARCA, Três Tristes Tigres continue to send love letters to the world. Most of the lyrics are once again written by poet Regina Guimarães, while the music is composed by Alexandre Soares and Ana Deus.

The band was formed in the early 1990s, when Ana Deus, fresh from the band BAN, and Regina Guimarães began creating songs and collages together in an informal setting. Their first performances, at Porto’s Aniki-Bobó bar, resembled a pop cabaret—balancing the poetic with the corrosive. Their 1993 debut, Partes Sensíveis, captured the spirit of this original incarnation of the band.

It was during this period that the collaboration between Ana Deus and Alexandre Soares, formerly of the legendary Portuguese band GNR, deepened after he joined the group as a guest musician. As their sound evolved, they released two landmark studio albums—Guia Espiritual (1996), awarded Album of the Year by Blitz magazine, and Comum (1998)—followed by a compilation that cemented their status as one of Portugal’s most distinctive and influential bands.
