Pedro Abrunhosa

Artistic residence - National Prémiére

Exceptionally, the last L Concert  will take place half an hour earlier, at 9:30 pm. It is an honor to finish this year's edition with the national premiere of the new project by one of the great names in Portuguese music. Pedro Abrunhosa heads to Ponta do Sol, Madeira, for a unique artistic residency, accompanied by some of the musicians with whom he has shared different moments in his career. Over the course of a few days of creative immersion, the group will shape new ideas, arrangements, and possibly new themes, in a lively and collaborative process that culminates in a very special national premiere showcase on October 9th. A unique moment of sharing, where the public will be able to experience firsthand the results of this musical journey.

Pedro Abrunhosa has always chosen the more difficult path. His public history didn't begin with a garage band but with the Conservatory. He didn't begin gaining fame in light music before later venturing into more daring projects. He did the opposite: at 16, he studied Analysis, Composition, and History of Music with Álvaro Salazar and Jorge Peixinho at the Porto School of Music and, later, with Cândido Lima at the Conservatory. By this time, he was already a member of the Madrid Contemporary Music Group. He entered music through the classical path. And when he arrived at jazz, he was a scholar playing jazz.
This was the beginning of the epic of his first album: "Viagens," released in 1994. A rock album full of jazz and life. Pedro Abrunhosa has always traveled. Across the various musical continents, as well as around the world, with a secondhand Renault 4L or hitchhiking, with a backpack on his back. Unlike many others, his musical trajectory went from the most complex to the simplest, toward the refinement of language, toward the essence of things. When he arrived at rock, his backpack was full of history and rigor. "Viagens," a collaboration with Maceo Parker, James Brown's longtime companion, reached unprecedented sales figures in Portugal. This continued with his subsequent work on seven albums, becoming perhaps the biggest Portuguese music phenomenon of recent years.

Composer, author, songwriter, producer, publisher, poet, musician... From the Conservatory to Jazz, he formed bands, played in orchestras, and toured the world. An unprecedented phenomenon in Portugal, he has a total of eight albums of original music, all written and composed by him. With a solid career marked by success, Pedro Abrunhosa has accumulated platinum records and numerous awards.
