Nástio Mosquito – July 16 2014
Considered by the Guardian newspaper one of the ten most important artists from Angola, Nástio Mosquito is an artist in several directions: multimedia and performance artist, who works with music, video, spoken-word and fine arts.
Nástio Mosquito plays with African stereotypes in Western contexts, he already had exhibitions in such emblematic places as Tate Modern and cities like Minneapolis, Tokyo, New York or São Paulo.
However, this first musical album was a genuine surprise, with the critics completely surrendered to a record difficult to quantify with so many influences. A dense and compact album, based on elements of hip-hop, dub, semba, kizomba, kuduro, rock and Jazz. The way he uses the voice is quite impressive as well, acidic, cryptic, lucid … In the end of the day, a poet.
Nástio Mosquito is the author of all the themes of the double album, which aims to be “an invitation to reflection” about a contemporary world and plural, about “relations between man and woman, the relationship of the people with the money, with the Elder”.
A real event, according to some press, get to know the musical aspect of an artist already known in the world of the plastic and fine arts.
Nástio will present a concert with the full band, for many this album brought a ‘ breath of fresh air ‘ to the panorama of music sung in Portuguese, a concert simply not to be missed.
