Batida is the name used by Pedro Coquenão to present his work, is a full live performance that features artists on percussions, dance, own made crafts, contextualized by hand picked archive and also own material.
Pedro was born in Huambo, Angola and was raised in the suburbs of Lisbon. 2012 was the year of his international debut with is first album, mixing electronic with samples from the golden era of Angolan music, he got many praises from international media.
The show was presented on Transmusicalles, Eurosonic or Womad Festival, where it was described by The Guardian as “Fantastic” .
2013 end up with an invitation to be part of the Africa Express show, a Damon Albarn project. In 2014, Batida remixed “Heavy Seas Of Love”, one of the songs of Damon’s first solo album.
His new album “Dois” was released later 2014, Inspired by the Lisbon multi-cultural synthesis and the artists he met over the last 2 years, as well by his return travels to Luanda or his adventure in Nairobi.
In 2014 Batida was selected to Womex, the biggest international World Music showcase festival. The show was one of the highest moments of the festival 20th edition. A warm concert not to be missed.
